Stash Bash Recap!

Everyone who follows me on Instagram knows that I spent last weekend at the Stash Bash, which is a quilting and sewing retreat outside of Altanta, GA.  Last year about 30 of us met up thanks to the planning and ingenuity of Chris, but this year we were about twice that in number!  I was excited to see people I had met the year before and to meet some online friends in person.  I even brought, Nisha, one of my oldest friends who is new to sewing and we ended up with Kristi and Angela at the most fun table ever!

Stash Bash is sponsored and we have some amazing ones.  Between the gift bags we received upon arrival, the goods we won in giveaways and gifts from sweet friends, I did not come home empty handed!

If I had to pick a favorite sponsor, though, I’d probably have to pick Stash Fabrics since Beth hangs out with us all weekend and brings fabric!  I did hold out til the last day, I swear.

We also descended on A Scarlet Thread in waves and I managed to do a bit of damage there as well.

Stash Bash_09

Stash Bash is blissfully unstructured and designed mainly for sewing and socializing, but we did do one optional swap and one optional “class” and I participated in both.  Inspired by the recent Sew South event, we did a Secret Agent Swap where we coordinated two gifts for a secret partner.  I received some great things from Jenn!  I didn’t take a picture of what I gave Elizabeth, but she assures me she liked it!

We had an opportunity to learn from Kristi how to make the Sew Together Bag by Sew Demented.

Stash Bash_17

I used some of the most recent DS Quilts prints from Joann and I am absolutely thrilled with how mine came out!

I also found some time to piece my Hello Petal quilt top together.

Hello Petal Top_02

I’m really glad I have at least one “finish” that I brought home from the weekend.

Hello Petal Top_05

Finally, I started on my scrappy trip along blocks.  I’m in love!

Stash Bash_19

I brought way too many projects and didn’t finish everything, but it meant I was pre-packed for the HMQG retreat this weekend!  I officially can’t wait for the Stash Bash 2015!!

{Finished} Florence Kaleidoscope Quilt

Last year Denyse Schmidt sent fabric bundles of the soon-to-be-released Florence line to members of HMQG and challenged us to make items with it.  She selected a few of those items to travel with the line to market.  I chose to make a kaleidoscope quilt top, of course!

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_04

I finished my top a while ago, but didn’t want to straight line quilt it, so it lingered unifinished.

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_05

Recently, I decided to give it to Pam to longarm and I’m so glad I did.  Check out this amazing work she did!

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_07

Pam used wool batting and quilted it so that the white would recede and the colors would pop.

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_08

Mission accomplished!

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_09

I bound the quilt using the dot plaid in carnelian.

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_10

I think the print is equally cute in the other colorway, malachite.

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_11

I love the colors and patterns in this line and I think they really work well with the fun kaleidoscope shapes.

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_12

This is the year of selfish sewing and I am quite delighted that this beauty will live with me!

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_15

I mean a quilt in one of my favorite patterns, using fabric from one of my favorite designers, quilted by one of my favorite people?

Florence Kaleidoscope Finished_16

Mine, all mine.  But you can stop by and visit!

Preparing for Stash Bash

Last year I had a blast at Stash Bash.  I even got a bit of quilting done too.  I quilted and bound two quilts, I finished another quilt top and I made a ton of Noodlehead Open Wide Pouches.

Stash Bash 2013

I’m trying to decide what to bring this year and have settled on “more is more” as the theme.  With that in mind, I am bringing two or three projects from the WIP list…

…fabric for one or two new projects…

…my hand sewing and crochet…

… and some assorted franken-parts to make bags, pouches and brush rolls (including the Sew Together Bag, which will be taught by Kristi)!

Anything I don’t wrap up at Stash Bash will come with me to the HMQG retreat the following weekend!

WIP Wednesday – February 19, 2014

I know it has been quiet on this blog for far too long.  And, truthfully, I have not been my most productive self “behind the seams” either.  However, one or two things have been completed and, with some new projects, the WIP list is steady in the double digits.  Of course!

I finished these lovely quilts between the Stash Bash and the HMQG retreat.  I kept the square patchwork (which I call my Leftovers Quilt, because the fabric is leftover from this quilt) for myself and, after quilting my Retro Flowers quilt for the second time, I gave it to my adorable niece, Soraya.

I also completed this kaleidoscope top using my Denyse Schmidt Florence bundle.  I think I will keep it for myself as well!

And my most recent project is one of my favorite to date.  I have a new niece, Hazel, and she is already almost 2 months old, so her quilt is overdue!  Thankfully inspiration struck and I’m so glad I went with my gut — I just love how this is turning out!  Fabric is the trusty Sherbet Pips and the pattern is Round and Round.  Love!

20140219-163518.jpg

Stay tuned on this one because I won long-arm services from the wonderful (and SUPER generous Becky) which are going to send this quilt over the top in terms of awesomeness!

Talk to you soon!! (I hope!)

Sunday Stash No. 9

I didn’t stash anything last week (I was in Mexico anyway), but this week is a different story!

I popped into JoAnn to replenish the grey polka dot from the new DS Quilts line that I used on the back of my walk in the woods quilt and also on the back of my new pillow talk swap pillow (more on both of those later).  Instead, they had most flannels on sale for $2/yard.  Often when I finish a quilt, I’m rushing around trying to find out of print yardage and spending a pretty penny, plus shipping.  Now I have enough flannel to back nearly 20 baby quilts (some for girls and some for boys!) — for about $3/quilt!

As you know, I have recently been stashing crosshatch prints.  When I saw these flannels at Joann, I decided I also needed them for quilt backs, too.  How fun are these?

And I found these DS Quilts prints — they must have hid from me the last time I was there!

I didn’t even know the new Hello Pilgrim line by Lizzy House had pearl bracelet prints, but apparently Frieda did and she stashed some for both of us.  And, she picked up this KJR for me when she was on a trip.

A great week — but I didn’t even get my grey polka dots!!
