WIP Wednesday – March 12, 2014

Exciting news alert!  My new niece, Layla Naomi, arrived last night!  She came right on her due date and within 2 hours of my cousin going into labor!  She is clearly a little lady with an important agenda.

Layla Naomi

We are going to DC in 10 days to meet her, and I’m making excellent progress on her quilt.  Since her gender was a surprise and her big sister, Soraya, loves learning about different animals, I just had to use my stash of Happy Drawing and Happy Drawing Too

2014 Happy Drawing_03

I have 70 of the 100 blocks completed and this should be a top by the weekend.

2014 Happy Drawing_02

I love the way the Economy Blocks show off the little animals.  These little blocks are so fun and whimsical!

I think Soraya will help Layla learn the names of all the different animals.

Soraya

Layla Naomi, I can’t wait to meet you!

WIP Wednesday – March 27, 2013

While I’ve finished several quilts recently, I do feel like no matter how much progress I make, the WIP list never gets below 10!!  Here’s a sampling of what I’ve been actively working on recently.

I’m nearly done (re)quilting my spring green/yellow/grey baby quilt…

Retro Flowers

…I started quilting the Sherbet Pips apple core project…

Pips Apple Core Quilting

…I pieced 11 more of my Flower Sugar Hand Sewn Diamond Stars while I had jury duty…

Flower Sugar Stars

…I made a postage stamp top with leftovers from this quilt

Yellow and Green Leftovers Quilt_01

…and this block is supposed to be the center of the Marcelle Medallion quilt, which can be found in the Liberty Love book by Alexia Abegg, but I am not the biggest fan of medallion quilts.  I decided instead to make a quilt using only this block but, while I absolutely loved the first block I made, I haven’t loved the rest quite as much.

Marcelle

Should I continue to 16 (my original plan) or stop at 9?

Finally, I have been learning to crochet and I worked on a ripple afghan when I went to Washington this past weekend.

Hopefully I will finish one of these soon!

Pink and Green Triangle Quilt

One of my husband’s oldest friends had his first baby in January, and C must have really wanted me to make them a quilt because he managed to get a picture of the baby’s nursery, which he texted to me.  I received the picture while driving and immediately sped home to pull fabric!

This was such a fun quilt to make.  Not only did it match the nursery perfectly, which I was thrilled to see when we went to meet Baby Molly, I think it was perfect for mom’s personality — she is such a fun, bright person!

Pink and Green Triangles_09

This pattern is a great way to mix a bunch of fun prints and colors.  I couldn’t decide between pink and aqua binding, so I did both!

Pink and Green Triangles_11

I think this is the perfect quilt for a bubbly baby girl!

Enjoy your quilt, Molly!

WIP Wednesday – February 20, 2013

When your husband requests that you make a baby quilt for his friend’s newborn baby and he accompanies that request with a picture of the nursery for inspiration, you have no excuse not to make the quilt right away!

photo-94

I immediately pulled the stack above and got a great response on Instagram.  I don’t know why, but I was really inspired to do an equilateral triangle quilt and I’m so glad I did — it was so fast!

Pink and Green Triangles_01

Laying out the triangles was seriously the most time consuming part of this quilt.  I think that took me even longer than the quilting, and I did a lot of quilting!

Pink and Green Triangles_02

Seriously, it was so fast that I also was able to make this quilt top (hello, shameless copy)!

WIP Wednesday – First Finishes of 2013

Now that my craft room is back in action and I fixed the tension issues on my Juki, I’ve been bitten by the productivity bug.

WIP Wednesday 2-12

I finished the Sock Monkey 9-Patch, started and completed my HMQG Madrona Road challenge quilt, and quilted the pink zig zag quilt!

Pips Apple Core Quilting

I’m so happy about my Juki that I put this quilt under the needle, even though I probably should be working on this…

WIP Wednesday – Back in Black

So apparently I went on vacation and then started a home renovation and totally forgot about my poor little blog.  Well I’m going to attempt to ignore that and just pick up where I left off.  First order of business, a little inventory of where I stand with my WIPs since my last post!

I decided to delete all projects from the list that were completed in 2012 and start over with a new tally for this year.  I completed my second Formation quilt as well as my FMF Irish Chain quilt, but they aren’t on the list below.  I actually finished the spring green and yellow baby quilt, but suffered a tragic batting implosion (more on that later), so I have unpicked the quilting and will attempt to rescue this beauty.

Retro Flowers Unpick

The sock monkey 9 patch simply needs the binding stitched down.

Sock Monkey Top

This fun quilt needs to be quilted and finished before being sent to my cousin for her to gift to her new god daughter!

Pink and Red Zig Zag

And I did manage to start something new, BUT it’s for an HMQG challenge.  More on that later!

12 Quilts in ’12 – October Link Up

This month’s finish was completed on the plane on the way to Washington, DC (where it was gifted to an adorable 5 week old boy),  so I guess you’ll have to trust me that it was completed!

This quilt is one of the two that I shared here and I truly can’t decide which one I prefer!

I love this fabric, by Patty Sloniger for Michael Miller.  It’s super cute!

And flying geese are great for little boys, so it’s a perfect pairing.

I know I’ve been terrible about blogging, and my three readers have apparently noticed!  I may not have had time to blog, but fortunately I’ve still had time to quilt!  My September finish was the other version of this quilt:

I promise to share more on these two later!

And even though I spent most of August on vacation, I had a finish early in the month.  I finished up this quilt JUST in time for a wedding.

Obviously you’ll have to take my word on it, since I can’t find my pics!

WIP Wednesday – Doubling Down

With work picking up, vacation ahead (yay!) and a long list of quilts to make, I’ve had to think of ways to make my sewing time count a bit more.

One of my friends at the office is having her second boy, and I wanted to make her a quilt using backyard baby fabric and flying geese.  I liked the idea so much, I decided to make twice as many geese and make two complimentary quilts at the same time.  I will be sharing a tutorial (hopefully soon) on my method, but for now, here are some in process shots.

Day Formation…

Night Formation…

I’m really glad I got a head start on this — her baby made a very early appearance this weekend!  Day Formation is all done and ready to gift early next week, while the Night Formation top is done and waiting for the right baby boy.

We also have friends getting married this weekend, and I just had to make something for them.  It’s been a bit hectic, but I got this Irish Chain top together using delicious Flea Market Fancy.

I cut enough strips to make this top, plus a smaller baby quilt, but that will have to wait until after my vacation!
