You may remember that in November, I started and finished the Lorax quilt — inside of a week!  It has sat, basted and un-quilted, for months…  Thankfully, I finished quilting it and stitched the binding to the front.  This quilt is intended for some friends of ours (whose shower was also Saturday night!) and I hope we can get together with them soon and see just how they like it!

Jen finished a fabulous quilt top that she has been working on for a while, and then she whipped up an easy baby quilt top (using the adorable Walk in the Woods line) for a good friend of ours.  Now it’s my turn to quilt and bind it, so I’ve added it to the WIP list below.  Hopefully I will have some time to do it, between my mom’s visit (this weekend), Jen’s wedding (the next weekend) and the shower, itself (the following weekend)!

1 yard of so sophie dot laminate in blue, 2 yards of european linen in oatmeal, 1 yard of european linen in white, 1 yard of so sophie dot in each of blue and purple and 1 yard of timeless treasures grid in black.

Then … mono pez is here!  And … here and here and here!  Frieda and I split an order of mono pez and the ruby sundae scallops.

Now I have a bounty of colorful basics in my stash!

Now we need to see if I will be able to cut into these!

Apparently no one in the guild has a birthday between January 9 and February 8, so I always get to make Beth’s gifts.  Last year, I made her a pouch and gave her a fat quarter of a coordinating print.  Here’s an in process shot:

This year, I wanted to do something a bit different.  I decided to conquer my fears and try my hand at bias tape.  I used a store bought potholder as a reference point and came up with this.

I know Beth will love the Tammis Keefe kitty print, so I included a fat quarter as well.

It came together really quickly and I think this size and shape will come in really handy — I can’t wait to make more potholders.

Hmm … should I call them pot-mitts, instead?

When we got the new bed, we had to move some things around to get it set up in the room.  I moved the lone stack of magazines in the room and found the Rawhide string blocks I had misplaced. 

Then, while watching TV with my friend this weekend, I noticed something on the bottom shelf of the TV unit.  My missing Neptune hexagon project! 

I was particularly excited about this find because I like to take this project, which is all hand sewing, on trips, and we have one coming up in 2 weeks.  I think my mind must be playing tricks on me: I was positive that there were lots of hexies in the pouch ready to be attached to the main piece, but there was only one, lonely hexie left. 

Do you ever forget the status of your WIPs and are surprised when you actually pull them out?  Good surprised or bad?

I wanted to make her something, but my good friend was staying with us this weekend.  Luckily, he needed a card for his girlfriend, too.  We got down to work, and in a few minutes we had these simple and cute valentines.  I think they get straight to the point!

It was really fun and it was even his idea to use my new divine twine!  The best part was that I had everything on hand — the red-lined envelopes have our return address on them and were gifted to us by our home’s previous owners.  They were perfect for this project.

I think my mom will be pleasantly surprised when she opens hers!

That’s right … 46.5 …  yards.  But!  I’m not really “stashing” it – it’s getting used right away.

Last week, Charles and I bought a new bed.  It’s fantastic and we love it, but it’s a King-size, so we need a new duvet cover and a headboard.  Oh, and a matching bedskirt, too, right?  And we might as well do curtains while we’re at it!

From left to right: 14 yards of Dwell Studio Boteh in Jade for the duvet cover; 11 yards of European Linen in Mosaic Blue for the headboard and matching bedskirt (arriving tomorrow); 14.5 yards of Dwell Studio Bella Porte in Citrine for the curtains and the contrast piping on the duvet.

What?  That only adds up to 39.5 yards of fabric?  You sound like my husband!  Fine, the other 7 yards (also arriving tomorrow) are a reward to myself for being, basically, a fabric ninja.  Through diligent comparison shopping and my conviction that fabric.com is the answer to everything, I managed to buy all of this fabric for less than half of the retail cost.  The icing on the cake was the linen being the deal of the day the day I ordered it!

It’s like I made money this week, just by stashing fabric!
